As much as I try to lead a balanced lifestyle, stress is inevitable. Here are my top 3 favorite ways to easily relax.
- Reading. I am such a book worm, and proudly so. I have been reading as long as I can remember and it might have to do with the fact that my mom always had magazines lying around the house when I was growing up. I was also always a curious person and I could never pick up a book and not want to figure out what happens in the end. My reading habits have evolved since then (obvi) but it is still a really big part of my life. I enjoy reading because after only a few pages of great reading material, I am submerged into a totally different world. It takes me away from whatever it is i’m stressing about, and suddenly I feel refreshed after only a few minutes of reading. I try to read at least 30 minutes to an hour a day, and it genuinely helps me relax and feel stress-free. I am currently reading “Not That Kind of Girl” by Lena Dunham, and i’ve been loving it so far. Maybe I should start doing book reviews, huh?
- Stimulating the senses. I know that sounded totally weird! But I have always believed that our senses is what brings things to life. When i’m feeling a bit tense or stressed, I like to heat up essential oils and play some natural sounds on my bluetooth speaker. I close my eyes, and it’s like i’ve transported into another world. I love the scent of jasmine and coconut, and playing sounds of waves crashing. Sometimes I turn on the fan for a little more of a relaxing experience. It’s like being at the beach in my own home! I love doing this, even when i’m not stressed out- just to relax and wind down!
- Quiet time. My “quiet time” is my way of meditating. I love experiencing total quiet sometimes. I like to be surrounded by my racing thoughts sometimes so that I can really discover what it is that’s on my mind that could be weighing me down. I used to be very uncomfortable with this because I literally search for the problem inside of my head which might make me face some fears which can be scary. Scary, but necessary in my case because I am a problem solver. I want to find a solution for my problem. I find that being in a quiet place, and sometimes using my comfy eye cover (it’s so soothing if I refrigerate it prior to using it, too) helps me accomplish this. This may not be for everyone but it has helped me solve a great deal of my issues, just by being self-reflective which ultimately leads to being more stress free.
These are 3 cheap, easy, and effectives methods that I have used to calm my nerves and wind-down. There are many other ways to relax (which I love equally) but these are my go-to’s when I need a quick fix. What are you favorite ways to relax and calm down?
